afforded by the Gaol. It is hoped by this means to permit
of the accommodation in the Gaol of 78 more prisoners.
(d). Police Station, Tsun Wan: $8,000. A
Station at Taun "an was in the original scheme of policing
the New Territories submitted by M. F. H. Hay: but its
construction was left over till other pressing needs had
been satisfied. On the 15th. of last March the nistrict
Officer at Taipo amein reported that this Station was
urgently required. sun Wan is an important market, wealthy
as wealth goes in the New Territories: it is on the high
road for a great number of the travellers on foot between
Hongkong and certain parts of China: it is very difficult
to reach from any of the existing Police Stations and it
is the one serious gap in the line of Stations that
protect Hongkong. I have, therefore, decided that this
necessary work can no longer be postponed.
In this connection I have
decided that a European Police Sergeant is no longer
required at Autau Police Station, where one of the
European Land Bailiffs for the Few Territories will in
future be stationed.
$15,000.
